TORONTO - Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney says hes not surprised that Jackson has been handed an additional one-game ban for his red card last week and has already spoken to the Brazilian about losing his cool. Upset that Chivas USA midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker was not called for a foul on him, Jackson took matters into his own hands in the 66th minute of Torontos 3-0 win last Sunday. Jackson promptly took Reo-Coker down with a scissors tackle, then kicked up at the English player. Reo-Coker shoved Jackson, only to be slapped by the Brazilian. Both players were ejected and have been fined undisclosed amounts by Major League Soccer. Reo-Coker got the standard one-game ban that comes with a red card. Jackson, who missed one game earlier this season though suspension, got a two-game ban. Vanney said he was not surprised at the additional suspension and not very excited at the misconduct that warranted it. It was sort of in a time of the game where our emotions should really be in check, because we were up and hes very aware of that, said Vanney. It was really sort of a personal conflict and we dont really have time for personal conflicts in a moment where we are pushing for playoff spots. Vanney said he had talked to Jackson, who had apologized for his actions. The Toronto coach, who said the Brazilian had had an excellent game prior to tangling with Reo-Coker, says Jackson has to make better choices. With all very talented players, they have a little bit of an edge in there and you dont want to shut it off completely. At the same time, hes got to make better decisions. Hes aware of that. The 26-year-old Brazilian has four goals in 23 games this season. Jackson will miss Saturdays match against the visiting Portland Timbers and an Oct. 4 game in Los Angeles against the Galaxy. Only two White Sox hitters, Adam Dunn (three times) and Jose Abreu had reached base off the Toronto starter. Dayan Viciedo was due up as the go ahead run. Manager John Gibbons made the call to the bullpen for Dustin McGowan, his most trusted right-handed reliever not named Casey Janssen. McGowans first pitch was a slider. It was a cement-mixer, as seamheads like to say, in that the slider didnt break. It caught the entirety of the plate. Viciedo was looking for it, stayed back and launched a go-ahead three-run home run into the leftfield seats. There was no doubt where the ball was headed the moment Viciedo made contact. The White Sox led 3-2 and wouldnt cough it up en route to a 4-3 victory. Gibbons, it says here, made the right move going to McGowan. It gave Viciedo a different look. It allowed Stroman to leave the game feeling good about his performance. The result, clearly, was undesirable. The strategy made sense. Still, Gibbons admitted he second-guessed himself. "I mean, if you could do things over you leave him in but my thinking was (Stroman) pitched his butt off, its unchartered territory, you dont want him to lose the game right there.
