COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Hockey Canada has named Scott Laughton as captain of the world junior hockey team. Laughton, a centre with the Ontario Hockey Leagues Oshawa Generals, is representing Canada internationally for the third time. Hes suited up twice for the under-18 team, winning gold at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament and bronze at the 2012 U18 world championship. "Im an older and with my pro experience and things like that I knew I was going to be a leader on this team, whether I did get a letter or not," said Laughton. "Just a big day for me and a really big honour." The six-foot-one, 190-pound centre is currently eighth in OHL scoring with 24 goals and 26 assists in 29 games. He was drafted 20th overall by Philadelphia in 2012. Forward Jonathan Drouin of the QMJHLs Halifax Mooseheads and defenceman Mathew Dumba of the NHLs Minnesota Wild will serve as alternate captains. Drouin was on last years world junior team that failed to win a medal. He also won gold with the under-18 team at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka tournament. "One skater did better than me but I am still happy with my performance," Fernandez said. "Sometimes its hard to get motivated right after the Olympics by my coaches told me to work hard and I can see that hard works pays off." All those run-throughs paid off," Moore-Towers said. "I felt great, calm and confident," added Moscovitch. "The skate felt good. Our goal is to skate to clean programs and we are halfway there." The pairs event concludes Thursday with the free skate. "I think youll find there is an easier sense of flow throughout the program," Radford said. "Weve just made some little adjustments to free up the program and when weve been skating it in practice, it feels lighter and smoother and it feels easier for us to just let it go and enjoy the moment."
